21 Reasons Why We Love South Glengarry: St. Lawrence River and Fishing [15 of 21]

Posted by: Jenni MacDonald

South Glengarry, with its picturesque landscapes and vibrant culture, has always been close to our hearts. Join Bill MacDonald and I on a 21-week adventure as we reveal the charms of South Glengarry that often remain undiscovered, even by its own residents.

Reason #15: The Alluring St. Lawrence River and Its Rich Fishing Culture

SHIP Alert! If you’re in South Glengarry, you might frequently hear the excited shouts of “SHIP!”, especially during gatherings by the St. Lawrence River. The sight of these majestic ocean-bound vessels sailing by is nothing short of breathtaking. For a touch of fun, jet skis often play in the wake of these passing giants (safely, of course!). To get in on the action and predict ship timings, we personally recommend the “Marine Traffic” app, though several others serve the same purpose.

Biking by the Riverside: Stretch your legs on approximately 40 km of biking trails extending from Lancaster to Morrisburg. Most of these paths run alongside the stunning river, offering scenic views as you pedal.

Boating Bliss: South Glengarry’s waterfront invites boating enthusiasts with several launch areas. Marinas like Mac’s in Lancaster, Raisin River in South Lancaster, and Creg Quay in Bainsville, ensure you’re never too far from a boating adventure.

Fishing Adventures: The St. Lawrence River promises an exhilarating fishing experience. Whether you’re an avid angler or someone looking to relax, the river is teeming with varieties like Pike, Musky, Bass, and Walleye. And come winter, witness the quaint ice villages near Lancaster, brimming with ice-fishing enthusiasts.

The Ultimate Mortgage Broker’s Guide to Home Insurance Options!

General

Posted by: Jenni MacDonald

Hey there, future homeowners! In the whirlwind of house-hunting, let’s not forget a crucial aspect – insurance. But before your eyes glaze over with the mention of the word, stick around. Not all insurance types are created equal. Let this Mortgage Broker guide you through the maze!

🛡️ Default Insurance: If you’re putting down less than 20%, this one’s for you. It’s the secret sauce that lets lenders nod in approval at those 5% down payments. A premium’s charged based on your loan-to-value ratio, either paid upfront or sneakily added to your monthly dues.

🔥 Home (Property & Fire) Insurance: Mandatory alert! This is your house’s shield against mishaps. While it sounds comprehensive, remember, events like floods or earthquakes might need an extra safety net, depending on where your dream house stands.

📜 Title Insurance: Every lender in Canada will ask you to have this. Why? It’s your protection against nasty surprises like pre-existing liens or, worse, title fraud. Think of it as a one-time fee guarding your home’s title.

🏢 Strata Insurance: Living in a stratum? This is your building’s safety net. However, it doesn’t cover the treasures inside your unit. Got an emergency like a flood? Your personal policy kicks in for unit fixes, while the strata policy rebuilds common areas. Pro tip: Keep tabs on your strata’s latest insurance policy.

🛡️ Mortgage Protection Plan: Optional but golden. Think of this as your mortgage’s lifeline if things go south, covering disability or life instances linked to your mortgage.

Confused? Curious? Or simply want to give your existing plan a once-over? Drop me a line 📩! As your trusted Mortgage Broker, I’m here to ensure you’ve got the best coverage for your cozy nest. Let’s safeguard your dreams together! 💪🏡🔐

Stay informed, stay insured. 🌟

South Glengarry boasts a multitude of splendid parks, providing the perfect escape to immerse oneself in nature, all for free!

One park that holds a special place in our hearts is the Glen Walter Regional Park. The 2km paved walking trail is our go-to destination for daily walks and runs, irrespective of the season – courtesy of a kind-hearted neighbour who ensures the path is snow-free in winter.

The natural beauty of the park keeps us coming back for more. You’ll find yourself entranced by the chorus of croaking frogs, the sight of sun-basking turtles, or the melodious songs of various bird species. Additionally, the newly installed play structure keeps our grandchildren entertained for hours on end!

The park further hosts courts for tennis, pickleball, basketball, and volleyball, plus fields for baseball and soccer. Added amenities include a picnic shelter and onsite washrooms.

While we’ve particularly enjoyed Glen Walter Regional Park, South Glengarry is home to many more! Here are a few you may like to explore:

Tee-off times are usually available daily, and the rates are very reasonable. Don’t forget to unwind with refreshments at the bar after your round!
