With 3 NHL size rinks, a Field House for Soccer, a walking track and indoor tennis court (that can also serve as a series of Pickleball courts), this brand new state-of-the-art multi-sport facility offers a great attraction for our City.  Community rooms are also available for private bookings.

The Benson Centre is open Monday to Sunday from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m

A sport for both young and old and a good variety of fish such as

Ontario Perch

Musky

Catch the next world-record musky by trolling large crankbaits and inline spinners at 4 to 5 miles per hour to cover the large expanses of the river and entice a strike.

Northern Pike

Reel in some impressive northern pike using a more traditional method of casting slender minnow profile crankbaits along weed edges, rocky points and shoal tops.

Walleye

Troll deeper water breaklines and humps using slender minnow profile crankbaits to reel in some massive walleye.

Smallmouth Bass

One of the most effective ways to attract the smallmouth bass is to dropshot four to five-inch paddletail soft plastics in darker patterns to mimic gobies, one of the smallmouth bass’ main food sources.

Carp

Attracting angler’s from around the globe, the carp found in Cornwall and the Counties are always up for putting up a fight. 30 to 40-pound carp are common for shore anglers and can be caught with bait as simple as corn kernels.

REASON #11 – Timmies

It is as Canadian as hockey and toques and Cornwall has lots of them – at least 14 of them within the City limits. It’s not very rare to see a lineup at any of the Tim Hortons locations in Cornwall of thirsty patrons waiting to get their morning Double Double fix. Starbucks is more to your liking, we have one of those now too!

One of Cornwall’s best-kept secrets?

This facility is much more than just a training center. It offers a bar & restaurant, meeting rooms, party rooms, hotel rooms, spa, pool, gym, and many annual events.

Such as the Wonderful World of Whisky Show, which had over 700 attendees this past year.  They have also confirmed the 4th Wonderful World of Whisky show to take place in March 2020.

Their newest event, the Beer, Bourbon, BBQ & Blues, will celebrate its 2nd year on July 13th. This year’s event will feature over 20 breweries, 10 distilleries, and various wineries and cideries.  Both of these events aren’t just about the alcohol, the food served by Chef Luc McCabe and his team has become a huge part of why patrons attend these events.

 

NAV Centre also hosts some of the other large events in the area like the Cornwall Community Hospital Foundation Annual Gala and the United Way Annual Wine & Gourmet tasting to name a few.

Cornwall has many recreations centres that offer different activities.  Here are some of our favourites.

AQUATIC CENTRE:
This state-of-the-art swimming facility offers public swimming, swimming lessons, Aqua Fit, toddler pool, whirlpool, 2 storey waterslide & more. The pool is also available for rental. For more information about the Aquatic Centre click here

CIVIC COMPLEX: 

Our 5,000 seat arena is often used for hockey, public skating, walking track and concerts.  Banquet rooms are also available for private functions. For more information about the Civic Complex click here

CURLING CENTRE: 
. If curling is your preference, the beautiful Cornwall Curling Centre has 6 sheets of ice and a bar and kitchen facility.  We host some of the best curlers in the world during the Shorty Jenkins Classic. Visit the Curling Centre website here

LAMOUREUX PARK:  

Lamoureux Park is a large park running along the shoreline of the St. Lawrence River in the Downtown area of Cornwall. The park is named after Lucien Lamoureux, a former Member of Parliament for the Cornwall area and Speaker of the House of Commons from 1966 to 1974.

The park features many points of interest, including Marina 200, Cornwall Aquatic Centre, Cornwall Civic Complex, Cornwall Curling Centre, Lions’ Club Bandshell, Citizen of the Year Walkway, Cornwall Community Museum, Splash Pad, a public boat lunch, the Rotary Eco-Gardens and the Recreational Path.

Hospice Cornwall is a 10-bed facility, located in Cornwall, Ontario that provides end of life care in a home-like setting.  While we all hope we will never need the Hospice, it is nice to know that it is there if you do.  This organization is invaluable to the community.  It has helped many local families through troubled times.

Santa Claus Parade

Since 1935, Service Clubs have played a significant role in the City of Cornwall.  No matter your interest, clubs of every kind have something to offer our community.  Some of our clubs include Kiwanis, the Kinsmen, and Kinette Club, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Lions, the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Woman’s League, the Optimists, and the Rotary.  These clubs host several events throughout the year such as The Santa Claus parade, Bingo, Oktoberbest, several Galas and Dinners, and Ribfest which all raise money to make our community even better!

Why Do We Love To Live in Cornwall and Area?

Century 21 Agent, Mike VanderMeer, and I have compiled a list of 21 reasons why we love to live in Cornwall, ON.   Why do you love this place?

#7: LIVE ENTERTAINMENT

Cornwall has many venues that offer various genres of quality live entertainment. The Port Theatre has ongoing cover bands, tribute bands, and shows.  The Civic Center has had some big names such as Blue Rodeo, Great Big Sea and continues to offer Musical entertainment and sporting events.  The Band Shell has had April Wine, Burton Cummings and continues to offer local bands and visiting bands an excellent venue to entertain on the waterfront. Aultsville Theatre has a huge range of entertainment from orchestras to comedians. Many local bars have live bands that play on weekends.

Boxing matches are also becoming a popular spectator sport in Cornwall.  Several local companies put on entertaining musicals and dramas.

In Morrisburg, the Upper Canada Playhouse offers professional comedies in an intimate setting.  Since Ottawa & Montreal are only an hour away, you can also attend larger shows and music festivals at any time.

IN 2018, CORNWALL PLACED NUMBER 7 IN THE TOP TEN PLACES TO RETIRE IN ONTARIO according to MoneySense.

Our favorable ranking is based on our weather, health care access, crime rates, and the cost of owning property. Consider that a property in Oakville costing $850,000 can be purchased in Cornwall for about $250,000. That certainly builds up the nest egg for retirement living.
